The Quaker Meeting House and gardens provide a distinctive, peaceful venue right in the heart of the city- 15 minutes walk from the Rail Station and 10 minutes from the Bus Station. See Directions. We aim to provide a friendly and welcoming atmosphere to all who visit.  Both our Meeting House (which is set within our large gardens) and our meeting rooms at 43 St Giles are hired for regular and occasional bookings by a wide variety of groups and individuals whose activities are in sympathy with Quaker values..

We offer  hospitality to school visits, as a venue for a picnic lunch while visiting Oxford. We can also welcome school groups who may want an introduction to the Quaker movement as part of their religious studies lessons,.

Our rooms are suitable for a variety of uses such as presentations, lectures, seminars and training days and include appropriate equipment in the cost of room hire (e.g. flipchart and projector). There is a hearing loop in the Meeting House with microphone and stands. A film quality sound system is also available. Wi-fi is available throughout the buildings- some rooms have additional USB data points.The whole ground floor is fully wheelchair accessible, including toilet facilities.

Our two kitchens, available for hire, come well equipped with crockery and cutlery, hot water urns etc. and additional tables are available and may be used around the building and in the garden. Groups may cater for themselves and outside caterers are also welcome. As Quakers, we have a commitment to reduce food waste and encourage as much recycling as possible. We provide bags and bins accordingly.

Rooms available for Hire:

Garden RoomThe Garden Room is a ground floor carpeted, light and airy room which overlooks the garden from the house at 43 St Giles and is connected to the large kitchen. The room can accommodate approximately 30 people, mostly on comfortable, upright chairs and there is a wall mounted projection screen.
Room size approx. 4.5×5 m
KitchenThe Large Kitchen adjoins the Garden Room and is equipped with ovens, microwave, urns, toasters, cutlery and crockery, and has good food preparation areas. The kitchen is used by all groups but can be specifically booked. When access is prevented, a trolley for tea and coffees can be made available in the entrance hall for other ground floor rooms.

The Library is also on the ground floor of 43 St Giles and is a book lined  room with shuttered windows which overlooks the garden. It is suitable for up to 20 people, mostly on comfortable upright chairs. There is a pull down projection blind.  Room size approx. 4×6 m
Long RoomThe Long Room– on the first floor of 43 has double windows facing onto St. Giles. Secondary glazing and carpeting makes this a quiet room for teaching or meditation groups. Ceiling mounted projector, USB and data points

SR JulyThe Short Room is also on the first floor of 43, facing St. Giles. It is a cosy room with secondary glazing and carpet which can hold up to 6 people and is most suitable for small reading groups or one to one counselling meetings.

The Meeting House is situated within the large gardens and is wheelchair accessible from the main path. This peaceful place holds up to 130 people with an additional 25 in the gallery, seated on a mixture of benches with cushions and upholstered chairs. This room underwent a substantial eco-renovation in 2013.

There is a large projector screen, floor level sockets,hearing loop and microphone with stands.This room is suitable for lectures, concerts, large yoga groups etc and is generally set out as for a Meeting for Worship.  The furniture can be moved but groups are encouraged to restore it to this arrangement on leaving.
Room size 7×10 m

The Meeting House kitchen is equipped with hot water urns, cutlery and crockery. Tables are available for use around the building.
